Hwy 95 road closure will be lifted this Monday (28th)!!

After a month of intensive work, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) announced the reopening of Highway 95 between New Meadows and Council this Monday. The closure, affecting a 10-mile stretch north of Council, resulted from ground failure attributed to heavy rains. ITD officials, including Chief Deputy Dan McElhinney, highlighted the critical nature of US-95, driving the department’s commitment to a rapid reopening within April. Construction crews worked tirelessly, with extended hours and double shifts, to repair the damage. While drivers currently use State Highway 55 as an alternative, they should be aware of possible temporary lane closures on US-95 for finishing touches. Looking ahead, ITD reminds travelers to visit 511.idaho.gov for updates on upcoming construction on SH-55, scheduled to start after US-95 is back in service.
